Taiwan expects no change in foreign policy after elections

Joseph Wu (pictured), the foreign minister at the disputed island of Taiwan, said on Friday that he expects little to no change to the territory's foreign policy if Lai Ching-te, the ruling Democratic Progressive Party's candidate, wins the upcoming presidential election.

Speaking to the press, Wu underlined that Lai has been vice president in outgoing President Tsai Ing-wen's cabinet for four years and that his experience includes attending meetings on national security and foreign policy, according to Nikkei Asia.

The election is set to be held on January 13, 2024, and Lai is leading in most of the polls.
