Tech experts: AI threatens survival of humankind
Over 350 tech experts, scientists, and executives signed on Tuesday a statement warning of the risks faced by humankind amid the rapid development of artificial intelligence. "Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war," the statement published by the Center for AI Safety said.
The statement was signed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and CTO Mira Murati, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott and Chief Scientific Officer Eric Horvitz, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, as well as a number of researchers and experts from other tech companies and prominent universities. They said the statement is "also meant to create common knowledge of the growing number of experts and public figures who also take some of advanced AI’s most severe risks seriously."
