Tesla to double number of chargers to over 10,000

In an answer to reports of a glut from long waits at charging stations, Tesla Inc. said it will launch comprehensive works to bring the number of its units to more than 10,000 this year. The update published on Monday notes the number compares to 5,400 individual spots that are active now in the world and more than 5,000 at almost 800 Supercharger posts at the end of 2016.

The busiest corridors will have larger stations with capacity for "several dozen" cars, according to the company, which has the largest market capitalization in the automotive sector among United States–based peers. The number of Tesla Wall connectors at hotels, resorts, and restaurants is planned to be expanded from 9,000 to 15,000, the statement adds.

"In North America, we’ll increase the number of Superchargers by 150%, and in California alone we’ll add more than 1,000 Superchargers," the electric car maker revealed.
