Texas businesses to operate at full capacity with no mask mandate

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced on Tuesday that businesses within the state will be allowed to operate at full capacity, while residents are no longer obligated to a mask mandate. The decision will come into effect next Wednesday and arrives days after the United States President Joe Biden visited Texas after its suffering from a winter storm.

Abbott based his decision on widespread testing, better medical treatments and increasing vaccinations. "It is now the time to open Texas 100%. State mandates are no longer needed," he stated.

After a complete lockdown at the beginning of the pandemic, the governor lifted some restrictions in May, but people were required to wear masks in public since the month of July. Texas state recorded at least 44,000 fatalities due to the COVID-19 virus.
