Tokyo CPI increases 0.4% YoY in March

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Ku-area of Tokyo annually rose by 0.4% before the seasonal adjustment to reach 101.8 points in March, slightly missing the estimates, according to the preliminary report published by the Statistics Bureau of Japan on Friday. Furthermore, Tokyo's CPI monthly grew 0.1% on a seasonally adjusted basis in March.

Excluding fresh food, the CPI expanded 0.4%, while without fresh food and energy, it rose 0.7% year-on-year in March. Both indexes confirmed the estimated values.

The largest yearly gains were registered in clothes and footwear, furniture and household utensils, as well as culture and recreation sectors, while on the other hand, the biggest declines were recorded in the fields of education, and fuel, light and water charges.
