Top House committee Democrats criticize Trump

The Democratic chairmen of three House committees issued a statement warning United States President Donald Trump of obstructing congressional investigations following his interview with Fox News when he made some comments regarding his former attorney Michael Cohen's testimony before Congress.

"The integrity of our process to serve as an independent check on the Executive Branch must be respected by everyone, including the President. Our nation’s laws prohibit efforts to discourage, intimidate, or otherwise pressure a witness not to provide testimony to Congress," the Chairmen of the House Committees on Oversight and Reform, Intelligence, and the Judiciary Elijah E. Cummings, Adam Schiff, and Jerrold Nadler said in a statement. "The President should make no statement or take any action to obstruct Congress’ independent oversight and investigative efforts, including by seeking to discourage any witness from testifying in response to a duly authorized request from Congress,” the chairmen added.

In the interview, Trump said that instead of giving investigators information on the president, he should give info on his father in law allegedly who loaned some $20 million to a major Chicago taxi operator. Cohen is set to testify before House Oversight Committee on February 7.
