Trump blasts newly appointed special counsel

Former United States President Donald Trump on Sunday blasted the newly appointed special counsel Jack Smith as "compromised."

He said the official, selected to oversee the pair of criminal investigations into the former head of state, was a "political hitman," arguing that he "shouldn't be allowed anywhere near" the Justice Department.

Smith will lead the probe into Trump's handling of the classified documents uncovered in a search of his Mar-a-Lago estate as well as the January 6 insurrection.
