Trump declares natl emergency to protect US networks from spies

United States President Donald Trump declared a national emergency in order to protect US information and communications technology and services from foreign espionage, the White House said. The US administration will "protect America from foreign adversaries who are actively and increasingly creating and exploiting vulnerabilities in information and communications technology infrastructure and services in the United States," the White House said.

"This Executive Order declares a national emergency with respect to the threats against information and communications technology and services in the United States and delegates authority to the Secretary of Commerce to prohibit transactions posing an unacceptable risk to the national security of the United States or the security and safety of United States persons," the White House added.

Media reported earlier that Trump will sign an executive order banning the use of telecommunications equipment from companies determined to pose a national security risk.
