Trump: GOP Senate would pass my SCOTUS nomination

The United States Senate which is currently controlled by the Republicans, will enable the next Supreme Court (SCOTUS) nomination to pass, US President Donald Trump said on Monday. Trump pointed out that the administration of President Barack Obama was unable to pass a SCOTUS nomination eight months before the election in 2016 because they did not control the Senate at the time, making the two situations "different."

The president stressed that he is in favor of finishing the entire nomination process before November 3, adding that there is "a lot of time." He also commented that all GOP members that back him on the SCOTUS nomination will have a lot to gain in the election.

Democrats and some Republicans have been highly critical of Trump's decision to announce a nomination for the SCOTUS so close to an election.
