Trump: Great progress with Kim, he sent a nice note

United States President Donald Trump used Twitter on Thursday to publish "a very nice note" from North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and claimed there is "great progress being made" in negotiations about the denuclearization of the peninsula.

The letter was dated July 6. Kim called the summit with Trump in Singapore on June 12 "the significant first meeting" and "the start of a meaningful journey." He praised the US president's "energetic and extraordinary effort" for the improvement in relations and "the faithful implementation of the joint statement." Kim expressed belief his and Trump's "strong will, sincere efforts and unique approach... aimed at opening up a new future" on a bilateral level would succeed and that the improvement in "trust and confidence" would lead to another meeting.

However, moments earlier, a letter sent by the US to the United Nations Security Council revealed the government in Washington accused North Korea of breaching sanctions regarding refined petroleum and demanded a suspension of all shipments of oil.

Also of note, US media learned representatives from Pyongyang failed to show up today, without call or explanation, at a scheduled meeting in the so-called Demilitarized Zone where they were supposed to discuss the repatriation of the remains of US soldiers from the Korean War.
