Trump pardons 2 service members accused of war crimes

United States President has issued pardons to Major Mathew Golsteyn and Lieutenant Clint Lorance, who were convicted of war crimes, the White House said in a statement. "As the President has stated, ‘when our soldiers have to fight for our country, I want to give them the confidence to fight,'" press secretary Stephanie Grisham said.

Golsteyn was facing a trial next year in relation to the case of a murdered Afghani in 2010. In a statement, he thanked the president for the move. The pardons will prevent Pentagon from pursuing future charges against these individuals. Clint Lorance was convicted of murder in 2013, for ordering the killing of two unarmed Afghanis, and served six years in prison.

Media also reported that Trump is considering restoring the rank of Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher, who was convicted for taking a picture with a dead body of a Jihadist in Afghanistan.
