Trump, Putin meeting begins

United States President Donald Trump (pictured left) began his first meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin (right) on Friday as an official bilateral encounter during the G20 summit in Hamburg. The two are joined by their respective foreign ministers Rex Tillerson and Sergey Lavrov as well as translators.

Trump and Putin are set to discuss Syria, North Korea and extremism among other issues, while the two leaders stated earlier that they were “looking forward” to the meeting that has been highly anticipated due to allegations that Russia interfered in the 2016 US presidential election when Trump emerged victorious.

"We look forward to a lot of positive things happening, to Russia, the United States and other countries," Trump said at the start of their formal encounter and added they would be discussing various issues. "Mr Putin, it is an honor to be with you," he underscored.
