Trump says he wants Iran talks, but is not in a rush

United States President Donald Trump told Fox News on Friday that he is prepared to negotiate with Iran once again. Trump said that he is ready to talk to Iran and soon as they are ready. However, he added there is "no rush" for the talks to take place.

Earlier in the day, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the US presents a "serious threat" to stability in the Middle East after the country deployed its USS Mason to the Persian Gulf in response to two oil tankers being attacked in the Gulf of Oman. Iran called for dialogue in relation to the incident and denied claims from Washington that it hit the oil tankers with missiles.

Tensions between the two countries have been on the rise since the Trump administration decided to leave the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal, last year. Iran warned it will pull out of parts of the deal unless European parties to the agreement find a way to circumvent sanctions Washington has imposed on Tehran. Previously, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif said Iran is not ready to negotiate with the US in regard to the JCPOA.
