Trump: Tariffs ultimate punishment for China
United States President Donald Trump stated that new tariffs on Chinese imports would be the "ultimate punishment" for Beijing's alleged misreporting about the coronavirus outbreak.
Trump called tariffs the "greatest negotiation tool" and insisted the duties his administration imposed so far made China agree to a trade deal with Washington. Speaking during a virtual town hall on Fox News, he also threatened to terminate the phase one agreement if China doesn't buy goods from the US as it promised.
Earlier, the US president accused Beijing of hiding information about the virus either because of its "incompetence" in handling the outbreak or because of something else, hinting China may have deliberately let the virus spread.
