Trump tells Macron: US wants 'strong Europe'

United States President Donald Trump told his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on Saturday that his country wants to see a "strong Europe." The two leaders discussed European security during their meeting at the Élysée Palace.

Trump tweeted earlier: "I am in Paris getting ready to celebrate the end of World War One. Is there anything better to celebrate than the end of a war, in particular that one, which was one of the bloodiest and worst of all time?" The president arrived in Paris on Friday evening ahead of the commemoration of the Armistice Day where he is expected to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin among 60 world leaders that will be in attending.

The US leader criticized Macron on Friday for saying earlier this week that the European Union should have its own real military and become more self-reliant in defense.
