Trump threatens trade action to provoke NATO contributions

During a luncheon with Permanent Representatives to the UN Security Council on Thursday, US President Donald Trump warned that Washington might take trade actions against NATO members who are falling short of meeting the target of allocating 2% of their GDP to the alliance's budget.

"US may do things related to trade with regard to countries that are not contributing enough to NATO," the US leader warned, just days after proposing that the contribution target should be increased from 2% to 4%.
