Trump wouldn't stop Powell if he wanted to quit

United States President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House before leaving for the G7 in France that he is "not happy" with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and added he would not try to stop him if Powell decided to leave the position.

"I don't think he's doing a good job at all," Trump said. "Do I want him to resign? Let me put it this way, if he did I wouldn't stop him.

The US president has criticized Powell for months over the central bank's monetary policy, claiming larger rate cuts are needed. On Friday, Trump referred to the Fed chair as an "enemy" after Powell's speech in Jackson Hole, where he said policymakers would "act as appropriate to sustain expansion."
