Turkey: Sweden must take more steps before joining NATO

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu (pictured) told reporters on Monday that Sweden "should take more steps" to resolve issues that Ankara had previously raised in relation to the former joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

"Tomorrow there will be a trilateral meeting in Bucharest with the foreign ministers of Sweden and Finland. The process is progressing positively, but there are still steps to be taken. The problems with Finland are not that big. We have more problems with Sweden," Cavusoglu stressed.

Previously, Hungary, the only other country not to ratify Sweden and Finland's applications, apart from Turkey, said that it plans to give the two countries the green light in early 2023.
