Turkey to remove daytime curfew from May 17

Turkey's Interior Ministry said on Sunday that the government would relax coronavirus-related restriction measures from May 17, with people being allowed to leave their homes during the day.

However, the ministry noted that overnight and weekend movement restrictions for non-essential business would remain until June 1. According to the directive, travel between cities will be allowed, while cafes and restaurants will have a take-only option with shopping malls working during the week.

Turkey has mostly overcome the country's third coronavirus outbreak, and has dropped from the peak of more than 60,000 COVID-19 cases registered in a single day during mid-April to less than 12,000 in recent days.
