Turkey to US: No difference between ISIS, YPG

Turkish presidential spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin stated on Monday that there is no difference between the Islamic State and the Kurdish militias operating in Turkey and Syria. In a response to United States President Donald Trump's earlier threats to Turkey, Kalin draw a difference between Syrian Kurds on one side, and the Turkey-based Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and "its Syria branch," the People's Protection Units (YPG) on the other side. He also urged Trump to respect the US' strategic commitments toward Turkey.

"Mr @realDonaldTrump It is a fatal mistake to equate Syrian Kurds with the PKK, which is on the US terrorists list, and its Syria branch PYD/YPG. Turkey fights against terrorists, not Kurds. We will protect Kurds and other Syrians against all terrorist threats," Kalin wrote on Twitter. "Terrorists can’t be your partners & allies. Turkey expects the US to honor our strategic partnership and doesn’t want it to be shadowed by terrorist propaganda. There is no difference between DAESH, PKK, PYD and YPG. We will continue to fight against them all."

Kalin's comments come shortly after Trump said Washington will "devastate Turkey economically" if the country attacks Kurds in Syria following the withdrawal of US troops. He also stated the US will attack the Islamic State (ISIS) "if it reforms" even though American troops will withdraw from the country.
