Turkish court rejects pastor Brunson's appeal

The appeal made by the American pastor Andrew Brunson's lawyer was rejected by the Third Heavy Penal Court in Izmir, Turkey. Brunson's lawyer, Ismal Cem Halavurt objected to the court's decision to remove the pastor's house arrest and to allow him to leave the country. Turkey arrested Brunson on grounds of alleged involvement in terrorist activities and espionage.

Earlier today, US President Donald Trump criticized Turkey for its refusal to release the American pastor and "taking advantage" of the US. Trump also vowed not to pay anything for pastor's release, but to "cut back" in other areas of bilateral relations. Additionally, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin pointed out that Washington prepared a list of further sanctions against Ankara, should it refuse to release Brunson.
