Tusk announces new EU summit on Brexit in November

President of the European Council Donald Tusk said on Wednesday he hopes that a Brexit deal with the United Kingdom will be achieved this autumn as the negotiations enter a "decisive phase." An additional EU summit will be organized in mid-November for that purpose, he added.

Speaking after the first meeting of the two-day EU summit in Salzburg, Austria, Tusk stated that some of UK Prime Minister Theresa May's proposals indicated positive development, specifically highlighting London's readiness to cooperate with Brussels on matters of security and foreign policy. "There is more hope and less time," EU Council president warned. However, he stressed, the Irish border question will need to be negotiated further and "reworked" for a comprehensive Brexit deal to be achieved.

Touching on the issue of mass migration to the EU, Tusk proclaimed that "we can no longer be divided into those who want to solve the migrant issue and those who use it for political gain."
