Tusk: EU wants concrete Brexit proposals from UK

European Council President Donald Tusk called on the United Kingdom on Wednesday to come up with "concrete, realistic" proposals to reach an agreement on Britain's departure from the European Union and avoid a no-deal scenario. "No news is not always good news. EU27 still waiting for concrete, realistic proposals from London on how to break #Brexit impasse," Tusk tweeted.

In January, the UK Parliament rejected the existing Brexit agreement over its Irish backstop clause and called on Prime Minister Theresa May to make changes to the agreement. However, EU officials have insisted that the deal cannot be renegotiated but expressed willingness to continue discussions with London in an effort to secure UK parliamentary backing of the agreement.

Meanwhile, May remained confident that she will secure a deal that will be backed by Parliament before March 29 when Britain is scheduled to leave the EU as that is the only way to avoid a no-deal Brexit. She stressed that the backstop clause should be amended to put a time limit on it or replaced with an 'alternative arrangement" for the irish border issue.
