Twitter starts service to send money tips to users

Twitter Inc. announced the launch of Tip Jar, a service allowing users to send money to other users. The new feature is currently available to a limited number of users, including "creators, journalists, experts, and nonprofits," but the social network said it plans to allow everyone using Twitter in English to send tips to applicable accounts on its iOS and Android apps.

Twitter explained the Tip Jar icon will appear next to the Follow button on a user's profile. Clicking the icon will display a list of payment services or platforms that the account has enabled. "Select whichever payment service or platform you prefer and you’ll be taken off Twitter to the selected app where you can show your support in the amount you choose. The services you can add today include Bandcamp, Cash App, Patreon, PayPal and Venmo. Twitter takes no cut. On Android, tips can also be sent within Spaces," the tech giant said in a blog post.
