UAW to expand strikes if no deal by Friday

Union Auto Workers union is prepared to expand strikes at Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Stellantis, in case negotiating parties do not reach an agreement by 10 am ET on September 29, CNBC reported on Wednesday citing sources.

The new deadline comes just a week after the union's leader, Shawn Fain urged employees at 38 parts distribution facilities of General Motors and Stellantis to participate in the strikes. This move came in response to the carmakers allegedly rejecting proposals aimed at improving salaries and working conditions for their workers.

United States President Joe Biden joined the striking workers on a picket line walk in Michigan the day earlier, emphasizing that the workers deserved a "significant" wage increase.
