UK annual house price growth down to 9.9% in September

House prices in the United Kingdom rose by 9.9% in September compared to the same month in 2021, according to Halifax's monthly House Price Index report published on Friday. The annual price growth was down from 11.5% registered in August.

On a monthly basis, housing prices in September fell by 0.1%, landing at an average price of £293,835. Compared to the previous trimester, house prices in the UK rose by 1.3%.

"The events of the last few weeks have led to greater economic uncertainty, however in reality house prices have been largely flat since June, up by around £250. This compares to a rise of more than £10,000 during the previous quarter, suggesting the housing market may have already entered a more sustained period of slower growth," Kim Kinnaird, director at Halifax Mortgages, said.
