UK cabinet expects nine-month Brexit delay - report

Ministers from the United Kingdom's cabinet expect that the European Union would grant the UK a nine-month delay to the original Brexit day of March 29, the ITV political editor reported on Monday, citing information provided by a minister close to Prime Minister Theresa May. However, the source added that the country could leave the EU "much sooner" if Parliament manages to ratify a withdrawal agreement "at any point before the end of nine months."

May's spokesperson stated earlier today that a third meaningful vote on her divorce deal will be held this week only if the government estimates it has a "prospect of success." However, the European Parliament's representative in Brexit negotiations, Guy Verhofstadt said that Brussels could refuse to grant Article 50 extension this week if the UK Parliament does not pass May's agreement before the European Council summit on Thursday.
