UK consumer confidence hits 8-month low in October

British consumer confidence in October was seen at the weakest level since the start of the year, according to a GfK survey conducted for the month. The figure represents the lowest confidence among consumers seen since February 2020.

The Consumer Confidence indicator stood at negative 17 points, decreasing by 4 points compared to the data seen the month before, however marking an overall improvement compared to the 34-point drop recorded in April last year after the first coronavirus lockdown.

"U.K. consumer confidence has taken a turn for the worse with all vital signs weakening," GfK client strategy director, Joe Staton, said about the data.
