UK consumer confidence unchanged in November

Consumer confidence in the United Kingdom was unchanged in November, GfK said in its report on Friday. The Consumer Confidence Index landed at -14, unchanged compared with October.

All five measures - Overall Index Score, Personal Financial Situation, General Economic Situation, Major Purchase Index Savings Index - recorded decreases in October.

General Economic Situation score for 12 months ahead did, however, tick three points up.

Commenting on the report, Client Strategy Director at GfK Joe Staton said that "consumers are clearly in a ‘wait-and-see’ mode" ahead of December general election. "The general election is potentially an opportunity to move us out of the doldrums – but for this to happen there must be a clear result," he stressed, noting that a hung parliament could be damaging for consumer confidence and "would surely deepen the obvious malaise that we see month after month."
