UK could administer first COVID vaccines on Dec 7 - report

The United Kingdom could approve and distribute a coronavirus vaccine "within days," the Financial Times reported on Saturday. According to sources with knowledge of the process, the country's Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency could temporarily authorize the vaccine developed by BioNTech and Pfizer, as well as the one made by AstraZeneca and Oxford University. The authorization process is normally handled by the European Medicines Agency until the end of the Brexit transition period on December 31.

The report added that, after the emergency approval, the first vaccines could be administered starting from December 7. According to current recommendations in the UK, care home residents and staff would be the first ones immunized, followed by other health workers and those over the age of 80.
