UK global leader in COVID-19 testing - Health Sec

The United Kingdom is the "world's leader" in coronavirus clinical testing with a "clear goal" to conduct 100,000 tests per day by the end of April, United Kingdom Health Secretary Matt Hancock (pictured) said on Friday, adding that over 7,000 of the National Health Service (NHS) staff have been tested for the infection so far.

Speaking at a press conference, Hancock claimed that research on treatment is "absolutely essential in fighting coronavirus," warning that the disease is "still spreading." Therefore, "social distancing measures can’t be relaxed" at the moment as "people would die" otherwise.

Earlier today, British health officials said that a total of 173,784 UK residents have been tested for COVID-19 while 38,168 of them were diagnosed with the disease. Meanwhile, the UK registered 3,605 fatalities caused by the infection after it reported a record-high 684 new deaths on Friday.
