UK govt approval rating drops amid Cummings row

The overall approval of the United Kingdom's government is at -2%, research from Savanta showed on Tuesday. The approval fell by 16 percentage points in a single day as UK politics is over shadowed by calls for Prime Minister Boris Johnson's adviser, Dominic Cummings, to resign. Johnson's approval also slid and is currently at -2%. The figure compares to Johnson's approval of 19% just four days ago and 35% on May 3. Simultaneously, approval of Labour Leader Keir Starmer grew to 12% from the previous day's 7%.

There have been widespread calls from both the opposition and Tories for Cummings, the man most famos for being the strategist behind the 2016 Brexit campaign, to leave his government post after failing to adhere to Downing Street's coronavirus guidelines. On Monday, Cummings adressed the press for the first time on the issue, but only to state he doesn't regret driving to County Durham from London during the COVID-19 lockdown. Johnson's advisor admitted to freely moving around the country and even going into work despite the fact that both he and his wife had developed COVID-19 symptoms.
