UK industrial production up 0.2% in December

Production output in the United Kingdom increased by 0.2% in December compared to November, the Office for National Statistics revealed in its report on Friday. The largest positive contribution was provided by electricity and gas, which rose by 0.7%. Manufacturing increased 0.3% and water supply was up 0.1%. However, the gains were offset by mining and quarrying which fell 0.9%.

Industrial production dropped by 4.2% year-on-year in the three months ending with December, pulled down by manufacturing, which declined by 3.5%.

Production output dropped 8.6% in the 12 months to December, compared to the same period in the previous year as manufacturing output dropped 9.9% amid the coronavirus pandemic.
