UK job vacancies down for first time since August 2020

The unemployment rate in the United Kingdom inched up by 0.1 percentage points to 3.8% in the trimester ending June, according to a report published by the National Statistics Office on Tuesday. The expansion was led by the growth of readings for people unemployed for six months or more.

Still, the number of employed people over 16 grew by 160,000. Lastly, the economic inactivity rate was unchanged at 21.4%, with the number of job vacancies dropping by 19,800 to 1.27 million.

In real terms (adjusted for inflation), the total pay annually fell by 2.5%, and regular pay fell by a record 3% in the April to June quarter.
