UK recovery may take longer than thought before - BoE's Ramsden

The United Kingdom's recovery from the coronavirus-caused crisis may take longer than previously predicted and will be less sharp than the downturn, Bank of England Deputy Governor Dave Ramsden (pictured) warned on Friday.

The official stated all stimulus options, including negative interest rates, should be considered because of this, noting, however, taking rates bellow zero is a "complex" issue and that the central bank would require time to fully examine the move. In addition, there is plenty of headroom for more quantitative easing, Ramsden asserted.

"It's quite possible that we could do more at that meeting or at subsequent meetings. But we will make that decision at the time," Ramsden told Reuters.
