UK retail sales down by 0.2% in September

The number of goods bought in retail sales in the United Kingdom observed in September a monthly decline of 0.2%, missing out on analysts' expectations, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed in its report published on Friday.

Despite that, the figure still came 4.2% above the level recorded in February 2020, before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Non-food stores decreased by 1.4% month-on-month while, on the other hand, food store sales rose by 0.6%.

Automotive fuel sales rose by 2.9% in comparison to August. Meanwhile, the proportion of online retail sales grew to 28.1%, up by 0.2% since the month before.
