UK retail sales rise 1.2% in February
Retail sales volumes in the United Kingdom are estimated to have observed a 1.2% rise in February, adding on January's revised increase of 0.9%, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) stated in its report published on Friday. On an annual level, the figure fell by 3.5%, less than analysts predicted.
Non-food sales volumes contributed the most toward the ultimate figure, advancing 2.4% monthly, driven by department store sales at discounted prices, but dropping 1.7% year-over-year. Food sales volumes added 0.9% in February, but automotive fuel sales reversed course in the same timeframe to fall 1.1%.
