UK retail sales up 1.2% in October

The quantity of goods bought in retail sales in the United Kingdom in October increased 1.2% compared to the previous month, the Office for National Statistics reported on Friday. The figure came in above analysts' expectations.

Retail sales were up 6.7% from February with non-store retailing, household goods and other non-food retailing all showing increases compared to pre-pandemic levels. Food stores, total non-food stores, department stores, fuel and clothing were still below February's levels.

Online sales grew 4.7% month on month and soared 60.1% year on year. Meanwhile, online sales as a proportion of all sales stood at 28.5%.
