UK's daily COVID-19 cases climb to 4-month high

An additional 10,321 people in the United Kingdom tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall tally to 4,620,968, the British Department of Health said on Saturday.

This marks the highest increase since February, when the cases sharply declined amid one of the most successful vaccination campaigns in Europe.

However, with the spread of the Delta variant, which was first detected in India, the UK has been seeing a significant rise in infections. This caused Downing Street to delay easing COVID-19 measures and other countries to re-impose restrictions for arrivals from Britain.
