UK's Johnson cancels trip to India over COVID-19

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has canceled his visit to India over the latest COVID-19 spikes in the South Asian country, Downing Street announced on Monday.

Johnson was initially set to spend four days in India and discuss various matters with the administration of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but the trip was scaled down to only one day due to the surge of COVID-19 cases. The meeting was to take place on April 26.

The decision comes shortly after India's capital region of Delhi declared a week-long lockdown due to a record-high number of daily reported COVID-19 cases in the country.
