UK sends EU written Brexit deal proposals - sources

The government of United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson has sent its proposals on how to amend the existing Brexit deal in written form to the European Commission, Buzzfeed News reported on Thursday citing three sources familiar with the matter. The sources noted the UK submitted documents with suggestions on how to remove and replace the Irish backstop but didn't specify more details about London's proposals.

Earlier this week, Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney noted the EU is willing to hear any alternative solutions to the Irish border issue and pointed out the bloc yet to receive any "written proposals" from the UK. Finnish Prime Minister Antti Rinne pointed out today the UK must come up with written proposals on Brexit before the end of September if it wants a deal.

In August, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote European Council President Donald Tusk a letter asking to replace the backstop with a "commitment to put in place such arrangements as far as possible before the end of the transition period."
