UK: Significant supplies of Ukrainian grain out of reach

The United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence (MoD) stated in its latest intelligence update on the crisis in Ukraine published on Wednesday that "significant supplies" of that country's grain remain "in storage unable to be exported" due to Russia's blockade of the nation's ports in the Black Sea.

The ministry noted that Russia's blockade has halted commercial shipping from the area and that Ukraine's efforts to export its products overland are "highly unlikely to substitute" for that. It added the blockade and the inability to access Ukraine's grain will "further increase the price of many staple products."

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba accused Russia of stealing his country's grain products and trying to sell them abroad. Previously, British Transportation Secretary Grant Shapps warned the food shortages the crisis has caused could prove to be more deadly than the armed conflict itself.
