UK suspends some Boeing 777 airplanes after engine failure

The United Kingdom suspended the use of Boeing 777 airplanes with a Pratt & Whiney 4000-112 engine on Monday after one plane with such an engine was forced to have an emergency landing in Denver over the weekend.

"After the Pratt & Whitney 4000-112 engine incident on a Boeing 777 aircraft, we have suspended this configuration's use in UK airspace. It is not used by any UK airlines. It is operated by airlines in the USA, Japan and South Korea where authorities have also stopped its use," the UK Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement.

Earlier, Boeing advised airlines to ground all its B777 models with the Pratt & Whiney engines while authorities in the United States investigate the incident. Japan and Korea have also grounded the airplanes.
