UK to allow EU tourists, students to travel freely after Brexit

United Kingdom proposed free movement of people between the UK and the European Union for tourists and students, as well as for temporary work in the white paper published on Thursday. As stated in the highly anticipated government document, businesses should be allowed to move "their talented people" between the UK and the EU.

The white paper recognizes that eventually, in December 2020 once the transition period is over, the free movement of people will be abolished. However, the UK government believes that the "depth of the relationship and close ties between the people of the UK and the EU" should be preserved. With regard to the workers' freedom of movement, the UK government agreed that "reciprocal arrangements, consistent with the ending of free movement" should be provided.

The plan agreed upon in Chequers last Friday is faced with opposition by the European Research Group, consisted of approximately 60 conservative MPs that think the government committed to "BRINO"- "Brexit in Name Only." The UK is set to leave the EU on March 29, 2019.
