UK to probe Nvidia's Arm deal on national security grounds

The United Kingdom's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) will open an investigation into Nvidia Corp.'s deal to acquire software company Arm Ltd. for $40 billion. Digital Secretary Oliver Dowden issued a notice that the probe should explore "any national security implications for the United Kingdom."

"As a next step and to help me gather the relevant information, the UK’s independent competition authority will now prepare a report on the implications of the transaction, which will help inform any further decisions. We want to support our thriving UK tech industry and welcome foreign investment, but it is appropriate that we properly consider the national security implications of a transaction like this," Dowden said. The report, which will also look into any possible antitrust implications, must be submitted by July 30.
