UK unemployment rate down to 3.8% in Q3

The rate of unemployment in the United Kingdom stood at 3.8% in the third quarter of 2019, according to data released by the Office for National Statistics on Tuesday. The reading is 0.1 percentage point lower compared to the previous month and is down by 0.2 percentage points year on year.

The employment rate was estimated at 76%, up from 75.5% from the quarter to September 2018. Meanwhile, there were 800,000 job vacancies for the August-to-October period, 53,000 fewer than in the same period a year earlier.

Average weekly earnings adjusted for price inflation rose by 1.7% on a yearly basis, while earnings in nominal terms increased by 3.6%. Including bonuses, average weekly earnings adjusted for inflation were up by 1.8%, while nominal average weekly earnings climbed by 3.6%.
