UK unemployment rate down to 4.2% in February

The rate of unemployment in the United Kingdom stood at 4.2% in the three months to February, according to data released by the Office for National Statistics on Tuesday. The figure marks the lowest level since 1975 and marks a decrease from the rate of 4.7% recorded during the same period a year earlier.

The employment rate was 75.4%, up from 74.6% from the quarter to February 2017, marking the highest level since comparable records began in 1971, the report revealed. Meanwhile, there were 815,000 job vacancies for January to March 2018, unchanged compared the October to December 2017 period and 44,000 more than in the same period a year earlier.

Average weekly earnings adjusted for price inflation increased by 0.2% on a yearly basis excluding bonuses, and by 0.1% including bonuses. Meanwhile, earnings in nominal terms increased by 2.8%, both including and excluding bonuses.
