UK unemployment rate up to 4% in February

The rate of unemployment in the United Kingdom stood at 4% in the three months to February, according to data released by the Office for National Statistics on Tuesday. The reading marks a 0.1 percentage point increase from the previous month and unchanged year on year.

The employment rate was estimated at a record high 76.6%, up by 0.4 percentage points compared to the same period in 2019. Meanwhile, there were 795,000 job vacancies in the January-to-March period, 52,000 fewer than in the same quarter a year earlier.

Average weekly earnings adjusted for price inflation rose by 1.3% on a yearly basis, while earnings in nominal terms increased by 2.9%. Including bonuses, average weekly earnings adjusted for inflation were up by 1.2%, while nominal average weekly earnings climbed by 2.8%.
