Ukraine's Kherson under water - regional governor
Approximately 600 square kilometers of Ukraine's southern Kherson region, including 68% of the Russian-occupied territory on the left bank of the Dnipro River, is submerged, regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said on Thursday. The average water level recorded this morning was 5.61 meters, the official said in a Telegram post.
Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), warned yesterday of potential radiological consequences due to water shortages at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) following the destruction of the Kakhovka dam earlier this week.
Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed establishing an international commission to investigate the dam's destruction as Ukraine and Russia continued to blame each other for the event. Explaining his proposal, Erdogan suggested that Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, and the United Nations should comprise the commission to determine what happened.
