Ukraine urges IAEA visit to Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called on Thursday for an international mission led by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to visit the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, currently under Russian control. He added that he informed the IAEA and the United Nations that "the Russian occupiers violated all seven basic principles of nuclear safety and security" set out by the IAEA.

According to Interfax Ukraine, Kuleba said the mission should arrive on-site "as soon as possible" and insisted Russia should allow the visit if it "has nothing to hide." He warned that Russian forces "turned Europe's largest nuclear power plant into a military base and are endangering the security of the entire continent," echoing the words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
